My own ramblings, basically the life of a mobile cardiac technician / St. John Ambulance officer. With the odd anecdote thrown in for good measure.

Turning points
over the last few weeks there have been several discussions about turning points. Ok, so most of these have taken place 6 hours into a duty once all the usual topics of discussion have been exhausted. I think that some turning points in life are clearly defined, i.e Getting married, moving house etc. Whilst some turning points are not apparent until you look back and analyze what actually happened and what the outcome is. Consequently some events which could be described as turning points at the time turn out to be inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
So why the sociological discussion at this time? Well it's a difficult subject to blog about as it involves real people, but within SJA Coventry, a senior officer has resigned. I really cant go into specifics on here, but what I will say is that it was in the middle of a duty and it caused me no end of grief.
So is this a turning point? Will it have a long term impact? Will we look back at the moment and ponder what happened?
I honestly can't predict what will happen in the days and weeks ahead, but i've said it before, and i'll say it again that SJA is bigger than any one person. The rest of us all have a collective responsibility to ensure that duties get covered and training is completed. We all need to work together to drive SJA forward. We need to give the organisation the best possible chance of being the best provider of first aid services. There's a lot of private medical companies out there who compete against SJA at the moment. Some of them are very good and well respected, and some of them are frankly run by cowboys with a flagrant disregard to the law.
All this being said, I am very reassured by some of the senior offiers within the West Midlands. There seems to be an ethos that we can improve, and will!
Anyway, It's Aberdeen this week which should be fun.
